In 2014, the Management of West Bengal Essential Commodities Supply Corporation Ltd. (WBECSC), under the Food & Supply Department, Govt. of West Bengal was planned to launch its own Retail Marketing Chain in every part of West Bengal under the brand name of “Roudra Bristi”. At very beginning, it was started in various Municipalities in collaboration with the Urban Development & Municipal Affairs Department, Govt. of West Bengal and State Urban Development Agency (SUDA). Initially one outlet was opened at the Head Quarter of Food & Supply Department, Khadya Bhaban. Then 3 (three) more outlets were opened at Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, Kamarhati Municipality and Madhyamgram Municipality.

​The main focus and object for opening of “Roudra Bristi” outlet was to promote exclusive products of the state in agriculture, food sector and local produce of rice, pulses, honey etc. as well as to sell varieties of products of various manufacturers/ Multi National Companies as mentioned below at a price comparatively lower than the prevailing market price. At these outlets while consumers will get branded commodities at discounted prices and producers of agricultural products will also get a fair price.
